Dear Little Friend of China - Many thanks indeed for your card! On the other side is a picture of your real Panda which now lives at the Bronx Zoo--also a picture of our "Let's Pretend" Panda. Our little toy Panda is nine inches high, soft and cuddly, and even "talks." Would you like one? We will be glad to send one to you for One dollar. If you would just send your dollar to United China Relief, New York City and pay the postage when the Panda is delivered, your baby Panda will be mailed shortly after we receive your order. The money you give by buying your Panda will go to China to help little children just like you! Sincerely, Kathleen Connor |@| In 1941, Mme. Chiang Kai-shek offered two baby pandas to United China Relief, which in turn promised them to the Bronx Zoo. The pandas were known as Pan-Dee and Pan-Dah. In addition to funding relief work in China, United China Relief attempted to educate Americans about China and its people.. |@| Digitized by Wildlife Conservation Society Archives
