Souvenir program for GSMT's Founders Day celebration activities, marking the founding of the society on November 17, 1785. 22 Mechanics and Tradesmen from various trades came together and called themselves 'The General Committee of Mechanics'. The name General Society for Mechanics and Tradesmen was used as early as 1786 and was officially adopted when the Charter was granted in 1790. The celebration was held on November 18, 1950 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York.
